an affair to remember

Oh... what's this?  More duckling pictures!

ducklings try to eat my dandelion

Yosef's new chicken house...
these ladies live in the lap of luxury
(this is just where they roost, they're free range of course)

Midge and Mars keep an eye on the fire to evenly heat the oven for pizza night!
P.S. I planted the new lettuce in front of the school house

Midge's sweet jungle bicycle complete with new parrot horn.

Midge falling off her bicycle because it's THAT much fun.

Casey practices his ninja moves while a pretty lady sneaks up behind him.

Midge and Laurel pose for their bicycle and sun dress photo shoot.
Check out that sweet path beneath their feet!

Ronald strikes a pose while lassie looks as if she's ready for dinner.

Buddy pics!  It feels like summer as we wait in anticipation for pizza.

Love it! love your heart veggie style.

the New York special

Sarah MADE this ridiculously awesome sweater, AND she gave it to me!

I SO EXCITED!!!

A lovely, and pizza-rific, evening.

Cleanin' some cogs in Albert's Bike Shack
(our bike repair shed at the farm).

Nothing like a little Oatmeal Stout to keep true while truing.

a hard earned Friday

The man with the master plan lays out his vision of the "creek pillow".

Joseph's new ducklings are along to help with the days duties!
Or perhaps they're just in it for a dip.

We dump several buckets of rocks that we've been collecting from vegetable patches into the creek to build the pillow.  Our farmer teaches us to use all the resources the land offers us; we don't need large rocks in our gardens, but they help slow the flow of creeks so that the earth may reabsorb more water and nutrients before they are carried away.

Lots of booties were needed for this job!

More of the ducklings lingering on the creek shore;
we needed their booties too!

The rocks are wrapped in some old scrap wire so that the current doesn't disperse them.
Kind of like a big burrito... or... a pillow!

The day was well rewarded with veggie burritos from the taco truck, the best chips money can buy, and a ridiculous amount of cookies.  $1.69 at Groc-Out.  Hot deal!

A good Thursday

This is Leonard.  He is the man.  He taught us about bee keeping today.
Note the hive box and honey.  yum.

Yes, he's as adorable in person as he apears below.

Sunshine, mustard flowers, oak trees and bee boxes.

This is their front porch and entry way.

Mis amigos.

Mis amigos son addicto a CocaCola.
Or something like that.  But really, it's milk.

Ronald is 28, from Peru, and very nice.
He is a herder and quite the cowboy.
And yes ladies, he's single.

Laurel is 30, from Greenwood, and very nice.
She likes wearing wool and feeding animals that make wool.
She doesn't need to make babies because she has several orphan babies to feed at the farm.

Baby.

This ornery little beast is stinky and thrashes around while you feed him.
Ronald doesn't like wearing the cow's milk froth on his shirt, so I tend to do it.

My partner in crime.
Yosef and I took a box of vegetables to a microdistillery tonight;
we are going to collect their used grains to compost and build wonderful soil!

the face of cuteness... babies on the farm!

Peeps and Unicron: the wee-ist members of our family.

 baby booties!
Seed party!  complete with beautiful packaging

my dresser with a plethora of bird cards and a delicious breakfast of
cornmeal cranberry pancakes and greens.

The strongest little seedlings you'd ever want to know...
an entire greenhouse of them!  Compost tea is amazing stuff!

How pathetic/ridiculously cute are these things?

I took a shroomadelic stroll through oak trees and vineyards on this sunny sunday.

 This is where I live!!!

Midge and I.  The October 31st babies of the house.

Ever seen a lady with TWO red-shafted flicker feathers in her hair?

so i'm a slacker...

But the good news is that some other, more responsible, kids on the farm are blogging as well!

Check it.  My homey Marzipan is orchestrating the blog and I find it quite nice.  Now I don't have to think or write meaningful or sensical sentences!  Now I can sit back and post pictures and comments I find witty.

Below, delicious food.

and a random shot from the new year complete with sewing machine and dead holiday tree.

things to tell you...
I don't know.  Life is good for the most part.  I eat like a queen, I play in the soil, I can't much complain.  There are baby sheep here now and really cute sheep herding dogs.  I've met some really amazing kids.  I can't believe that it is possible for me to live with 11 other humans- I never thought this would be.  I want to wrestle them with hugs.  I'm listening to Polka Dot Dot Dot.  I'm learning ridiculous amounts.  My digestive system has never been happier.  Jessica  Brown visited for a night.  One of the fellows here did a mini presentation on the history of bicycles; it reminded me of when Aaron used to give raptor ID presentations to the crew in the Goshutes.  I got an amazing wool sweater from one of the girls here because she said it is weird looking.  It's beautiful!  I'll post a picture.  My mother brought one sweet tandem bicycle down from Sacramento and it has been nothing but smiles, laughter, and a little bit of fear.  We also have baby chicks and we are currently incubating duck eggs.  Fermentation is all the rage here... one of the girls made a jug of ginger beer (non alcoholic) which we enjoyed hardily on the new year.  Now theres a huge jug of squash beer (alcoholic) fermenting in the warmth of the chicks heat lamp in our living room.  It's fermenting like wild and going to be enjoyed at our graduation festivities.  Also, who can forget kim chee, sourdough starter, and kambucha?  There is so much going on here it's hard to keep up.

and the beet goes on

i've been momentarily set back by... well, in the words of Robert Kinnard, "F*** that noise!"
